We at Custom Choice Cereal wanted to share with you another product review. Sarah from Washington D.C. writes the blog Gluten-free Grazer and published a review on February 3, so we are a little bit behind.
She has embedded a couple of pictures of the product and of our brochure in her review of our custom gluten-free cereal that are worth checking out. Sarah also writes that “there’s such a great variety of textures and tastes inside – I LOVE it”. But see and read for yourself!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS FOR WINNING THE SUPER BOWL XLIV!!

Custom Choice Cereal is excited for New Orleans having won the Super Bowl 2010 against the Indianapolis Colts (and against all odds)! Peyton Manning’s precision passes and a 96-yard touchdown drive that actually tied Super Bowl record could not stop the Saints. After a come back in Q2 they began the second half with a very successful onside kick, followed later by a two-point conversion ruled good after review for the 7-point lead, and a crucial interception in the final quarter that resulted in the final score of 31-17.
We realize that this blog post is not about one of our usual topics such as celiac disease, gluten-free food, or customized gluten-free cereal. Being huge sports fans there are other things going on in life, and the Super Bowl definitely is one of them! We would very much like to be at that party in New Orleans tonight, celebrating the first Super Bowl victory in franchise history…
Sarah is a gluten-free girl who lives in Milwaukee and loves food. She also writes the blog Celiac in the City on which she posted a great review of our custom gluten-free cereal.
The best part – if you comment on her blog about Custom Choice Cereal by Monday at 12:00pm CST, a random winner will be picked who can then customize a personal gluten-free cereal mix. Check out her review by clicking on the picture below!

Custom Choice Cereal wrote before about the great series in The New York Times on the varied symptoms, genetic testing, and diagnosis of celiac disease. Readers were able to post their questions, which were subsequently answered by Dr. Sheila Crowe, a professor in the division of gastroenterology and hepatology in the department of medicine at the University of Virginia.
This time the Q&A focuses on celiac disease and its link to infertility and miscarriages. According to Dr. Crowe, infertility is more common in both men and women with untreated celiac disease. Once a women with active but untreated celiac disease does become pregnant, miscarriages and preterm deliveries can be more common. Read Dr. Crowe’s entire answer by clicking on the picture below.
Over the past months of operations we have met a lot of great people who are involved in raising awareness for celiac disease, helping fellow celiacs, and finding and sharing gluten-free information. Borrowing terminology from Zach, writer of the blog Gluten Free Raleigh, we refer to some of these as our “internet friends”. Hopefully Custom Choice Cereal will have a chance to meet more and more of them as time goes on!
To some of these friends we are talking on a regular basis, and one of them is Cain who refers to himself as “Head Honcho” of The Celiac Maniac.com. Cain started a Gluten-Free Online Radio that broadcasts every Thursday from 1:30pm – 2:30pm PST. Today starting at approximately 4:50pm EST we will talk live to Cain about our company, our gluten-free facility, our products, and our philosophy. It should be interesting and fun, so please join!
Custom Choice Cereal is very happy to host the second Q&A session with Dr. Stephen Wangen today.
Dr. Wangen is also known as The Gluten Free Doctor, co-founded the Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Treatment Center in Seattle, WA, and wrote the book “Healthier Without Wheat”. He is specializes in digestive disorders and food allergies and can answer all your questions on celiac disease, gluten intolerance, wheat allergy, and their respective symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment.
Here is how it works in three easy steps:
- Post your question as a comment to this blog entry
- Dr. Wangen will answer your question and post it as a reply
- You read the answer. Simple enough
We are expecting great questions from you and hope we can learn in the process as well, so please don’t hold back!
Due to the unusual weather in this part of North Carolina, we were able to leave our gluten-free footprint in the snow this past weekend. And on today’s Groundhog Day, Phil says that there will be “six more weeks of winter”…
As much as this is breaking news across the country, Custom Choice Cereal is actually slightly more excited about an article on our DIY Gluten-Free Cereal Company that was published today. Rose Garland writes in her article that she is a “convert to this company” because she “can make and eat my own cereal again” and because of “Hajo’s exuberance” for his business.
Jessica from Santa Monica, CA, writes the witty blog Gluten Free Chops on which she recently posted about her Top 10 Ready Made Snacks for GC College Students. Her suggestions are definitely worth a try!
Custom Choice Cereal contacted Jessica and asked her if she could add our custom gluten-free cereal to her list of gluten-free snacks. She now dedicated an entire blog entry to the gluten-free granola with blueberries and strawberries that she created, describing it as “light, crispy, crunchy, with absolutely no skimping on the fruit front”.
Fortunately for us, Jessica is also really skilled in taking great pictures as you can tell. Thanks, Jessica!
The moment Custom Choice Cereal launched we were told again and again that we have to meet with Zach, a local celiac and author of the blog Gluten Free Raleigh. His blog is a great resource about anything gluten-free, and he shares his experiences about eating out, testing products, and other advice for (newly diagnosed or veteran) celiacs. He is also very active in the celiac community and launched a petition for the requirement of posting a food allergy poster at every restaurant in Wake county.
After recently having met Zach at our facility we are extremely happy to see his review of the custom gluten-free cereal mix that he created while he was here. He writes that “Hajo told me that I wouldn’t have to worry about the bag lasting very long and he was right. Although it’s nice to finally have a resealable bag for cereal – this product honestly doesn’t last long enough to need it!”.
Given the recent incident where a company sold bread labeled as gluten-free that tested positive for gluten, Zach was especially glad to hear about our rigorous testing policy. Custom Choice Cereal does everything in our power to ensure that our custom gluten-free cereal mixes are safe to consume, and we will never compromise on this! You can read his entire product review by clicking on the picture below.

This weekend our wonderful State of North Carolina was hit by what is referred to here as a “snow storm” – 6-8 inches of snow, at least here in the Triangle. Since this is a fairly unusual event for this part of the county, Custom Choice Cereal went out and enjoyed this rare occasion. As you can tell we literally left our footprint in the snow…
We wish all of you here and in the rest of the country a wonderful weekend! Fellow North Carolinians, please be aware of “roads likely to be a nightmare” and many schools being closed on Monday.
